Miyu Hosoi
b. 1993, Tokyo, Japan; lives and works Tokyo, Japan.
Miyu Hosoi is predominantly a sound artist whose works frequently feature multiple recordings of their own voice.Often presented as sound installations using multi-channel sound systems, outdoor installations, or performance productions, Miyu Hosoi focuses on the way sound transforms the perception of space and situations. A signature of much of their work is the sonic intersection of people, place and history, where a particular context give rise to exploration of the social political or ecological factors that determine our understanding of the site. From public parks to nuclear exclusion zones, from dinner tables to national collections of beloved artworks, the work of Miyu Hosoi identifies how all sites are loaded with the potential for human and non-human exchange. By absenting the familiar visual aspects of each highly significant situation, she quietly and carefully attunes our attention differently to the complex social and political dynamics at play.
