Stephanie Comilang is a Filipino Canadian artist and filmmaker based between Toronto and Berlin. Her work intricately blends narratives, histories, and memories to explore themes of identity and the deep connections between human and non-human life. Comilang’s work encourages audiences to reflect on the complexities of our shared existence, offering insights into how we might positively reshape our relationship with the planet and all its inhabitants. She frequently revisits the idea of ‘home’, using this concept to explore topics related to diaspora and migration. Through her documentary style, she emphasizes global labour conditions and intercultural communication. Using video and sculpture as her mediums, Comilang sheds light on the struggles of migrants face, highlighting the exploitation and challenges that arise when individuals are forced to leave their homeland due to circumstances beyond their control.
