400 feet of factory fresh unexposed VISION3 500T 5219/7219 Colour Negative 16mm film, buried in the Camden Art Centre garden for an indefinite period of time (2023) consists of the burial of 400 feet of 16mm motion picture film in the Camden Art Centre garden. The film is unexposed and will remain ‘factory fresh’ within a container. The work is situated in the grounds of the institution for an indefinite period of time and a site map for its precise location is available to the public. Confronting the location and contending with the absence of any visual substantiation, the text alone is rendered as the essential medium of the piece. Yet, the text, like a speech act, produces the reality of the work in the mind of the viewer. While the facts of the piece are taken on good faith, and manifest immaterially as an experience, the film itself is slowly degrading precisely because of its material conditions, rendered invisible to the viewer.
